Our front page had the story of CSR and its ambitions to dominate the Australian timber industry.
Page 2 saw the article about the rapid acquisition of Melbourne merchants by Sydney 'intruder' BBC (right). Sussex, Kirks, Brita and Southland were all acquired in a six-month period. "We'll be looking for further acquisitions," John Tregaskis, Sussex Timbers' general manager told TimberTrader News – and they did!

The newly formed Forest Protection Society held its first conference in Canberra (ACT) and the TMA held its first ever awards night (see right hand caption).
