Spiro Notaras passed away at the age of 83 on the 9 January 2016 after suffering from stroke complications.
Spiro owned and managed J Notaras & Sons Pty Ltd in Grafton on the North Coast of New South Wales, and had been sawmilling since 1952.
In that time Spiro was a long-time supporter of the TTIA, and many other relevant industry associations.
His business acumen was evident early on, and subsequently his business specialised in the production of high-quality kiln dried hardwood flooring.
Today – J Notaras & Sons is widely recognised as one of the world’s best producers of hardwood flooring.
The company has also become a major economic driver in the Clarence Valley area, and one that still supports the community in numerous projects – including the restoration of the much-loved historic theatre in Grafton.
More than anything else – Spiro Notaras was a gentleman with a huge heart. He was a committed family and community man, and someone whose passion and pride in the timber industry, and his country, was always inspiring to those fortunate enough to know him.
In Spiro’s case – it really was a life well lived. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
Vale Spiro Notaras.
