Covid outbreak delays sale of popular Sydney joinery.
A lot of plans have been scuttled by the current Sydney Covid outbreak, among them, Matt and Mandy Collin’s for an easy sale of their business at Matt’s retirement.
Established in 1994, Artarmon Joinery has been serving the Sydney building industry for over 27 years. The business commenced trading in 1994 in Dixon Avenue Artarmon. Due to the growth of the business and production constraints with the Artarmon premises, the business was relocated to 3 Gundah Road, Mt Kuring-gai in 2005.
Artamon Joinery has been a cornerstone for the manufacturing of custom timber windows and doors ever since. Core products are double-hung, casement, awning, louvre and Aneeta windows, with options for bi-folding and sliding in both windows and doors, to suit Heritage, Contemporary and Commercial designs. Builders, architects, developers and homeowners, predominantly from the Northern Beaches and the Eastern Suburbs, have been the core customer base. However, the business has also completed international projects in Fiji and Vanuatu and regional projects from Moss Vale to Ballina.
Due to recent health issues, Matt made the decision to retire and subsequently the business was sold in June by Sydney Auctions Pty Ltd to Windoor Joinery.
Windoor Joinery was founded by John and Cathie Dolan alongside their son Ian in 1985. At that time, Windoor operated from a small garage in Liverpool, Sydney, where the company commenced manufacturing timber windows and doors. Now it’s expanded to include showrooms in St Marys, Willoughby and Orange. The company manufactures quality timber windows and doors for leading architects, developers, builders and homeowners right across Australia
On completion of the sale, negotiated by David Purtle of Sydney Auctions, Windoor Joinery will take over the clients currently serviced by Artarmon.
“It was a very hard decision to sell ARTARMON JOINERY and not one that was made lightly,” says Matt. “We have had a great relationship with our loyal customers and suppliers. I would like to think we have built a legacy and that people will remember us for our service and quality.”
The plan was straightforward: the sale of the business would be followed by the sale of plant, machinery, equipment, vehicles, trucks and more, all of which were scheduled to go under the Sydney Auctions hammer in July. Alas, lockdown came, and it was not to be.
David Purtle and his Sydney Auctions team have instead moved the auction wholly online with a single Covid-safe inspection day planned for Monday 30 August.
“It’s a rare opportunity for anyone looking to supply quality tools, machinery and vehicles to their business,” Purtle says. “From a forklift and ute, through a range of saws and specialty joinery equipment, to plant infrastructure like racking and a mezzanine floor, there is a wide range of quality lots on offer.”
Matt Collin is going to miss many things about the business, particularly “the great support our clients and suppliers and the effort and commitment the staff have put in over our tenure’.
“But I have known Ian Dolan of Windoor for over 25 years, we are pleased that Windoor recognises the strength of the Artarmon Joinery business as well as its future potential.
“Going forward I am sure Windoor Joinery will service the Artarmon Joinery clients to the highest of standards and quality. I believe the Artarmon Joinery business clients are in very good hands with Ian and the team at Windoor.”
Ian Dolan, Managing Director of Windoor Joinery, said, “I have known Matt Collin for over 25 years, we were both founding members of WADIC (Window & Door Industry Council), we are pleased to finalise the acquisition of the Artarmon Joinery business and wish Matt all the best in his retirement. Artarmon Joinery has been a wonderful ambassador to our industry and Matt’s retirement will be a great loss to the Industry.”
