It was that time again – MiTek Victoria’s annual golf day. It was held once more at the rather oddly named Growling Frog Golf Course, north of Melbourne. The course is a gently undulating, 18 hole, par 72 challenge that offers wonderful scenery… and large open fairways. Just as well – as some of MiTek’s guests found their ‘straight’ drives curling left and right at times. The 4-ball Ambrose event saw players tee off at 9.20am (shotgun start) after a short review on rules, team selections and a hot cuppa (complete with Bacon & Egg rolls). Mark Smiles welcomed all – then it was time for the first group to go. A special thanks goes to Peter Hutchison ( sidelined with a bad back) and Glenn Johnstone for ensuring all were fed and watered (or other) – as they sped around the course in a well-stocked golf cart. Both also played paparazzi on the day.
Mark Smiles was very happy with the day: ‘we had more guests this year. I think that had a bit to do with the weather; it was a sunny, albeit a bit windy event. Much better than recent years – especially 2014; when all endured torrential rain. We might look at a different venue next year – so I expect to see even more then,’ he added.
As the last groups wandered back into the clubhouse a hot, sit down lunch in the clubhouse’s upstairs restaurant and some cold drinks welcomed all. Once refreshed it was time for Mark hand out the awards:
