I have always said the best thing about working in the timber industry is the people. Down to earth, funny, straight up, hardworking and honest people and Clive Martella was one of those.

Recently, the Bureau of Statistics predicted that by 2056 Melbourne’s population will overtake Sydney’s to become the largest populated city in Australia.

They say good things come to those who wait, but the truth is, even better things come to those who work hard – and this is definitely the case when it comes to the newly released Australian Standard ‘1720.5:2015 Timber Structures – Nailplated timber roof trusses’.

The 2015 FTMA Australia National Conference will be winding up soon and everyone had a fantastic time.

The Frame & Truss Manufacturers Association of Australia recently held its national conference in the tranquil setting of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

The 2015 PrefabAUS Conference was held at Melbourne University and was, once again, well attended.

In a perfect example of effective industry collaboration, FTMA Australia was joined by ForestWorks, TABMA and the TTIA in hosting forums in Canberra, Illawarra and West Sydney during the last week of February to discuss the all-important issue of timber waste with fabricators and suppliers to the industry.

During the 2014 FTMA Australia event, in conjunction with the ForestWorks Innovation Skills Program, an Innovation Working Group with fabricators and suppliers was co-ordinated.

It’s hard to believe it’s only a couple of weeks to Christmas. The silly season is well underway and, as always, we ask ourselves at this time of year: where did the year go?
